Introducing a lifelong learner

Welcome! Yaahteeh! I am Daron Butler. I am human being, a male, born a full-blooded Navajo from the Navajo Nation. I am a Native American.
I was born into a Navajo family where we learned how harmony works in this life by doing life together. My grandparents profoundly impressed me with their life experiences. I had to learn to understand Navajo, but I learned a lot by context. Here is a picture of my grandparents that I cherish. I do miss them. I miss learning from their life and example.

I was born into a Navajo family who trusted in Christ as personal Savior and Lord. My parents chose to commit each of their lives to follow the Jesus Way. Each parent taught me lessons that shaped me today. I had to learn how their faith in Christ as Navajos sculpted their pathway amid challenges and setbacks around them. My dear mother died in July 2018. My father lives in New Mexico serving as pastor on the Navajo Reservation. Here is a picture collage of my parents that I cherish. I miss my mom. From young newlyweds, to parents of teens, to grandparents, I am grateful for the lessons that they taught me and still teach me.

I am a big brother to my siblings. In the Navajo way, the eldest has unspoken responsibilities to care for his siblings. I love my siblings very much. They enriched my life as each one joined our family. I enjoy hanging out with them–laughing, eating, playing games, watching sports, playing sports, and going to movies, etc. Although we don’t get to do that much these days, I love my siblings. The picture below shows us at the funeral of my late mom, Mary. Dad, joined us for this photo. 🙂 I love my siblings!

I am married to Melissa. We have four children: Micah, Jeremiah, Talia, and Carissa. Our family is blended. We are a multicultural family–a blend of Native American and German American descents. As I told my children, your roots are strong! You can draw strength from your roots to live great lives. I love my immediate family! Together with my wife, Melissa, we are moving towards empty-nest. But we enjoy sharing life together as a family. I am making sense of going across cultures as I help my kids navigate their root system and grow deep, strong roots to live great lives.

The reason why I am blogging is to share the things that I am learning. I like to curate things and share things of interest to me. I have an eclectic interest spanning the horizons of my life. I enjoy discovering new things–especially things surrounding my growing faith in Christ.
I am going to be blogging about a vast variety of topics. I intend to share about my spiritual journey. I will share about things dealing with cross-cultural dynamics. I will invite you to explore new things from other cultures–foods, fun, and personalities. I will ask you to champion care for one another. I will indulge in books that I am reading, movies that I am watching, and music that inspires me. I will share about things that I observe that need encouragement. I seek to listen and to hear from you what I should engage. I will offer unique viewpoints as we dialogue on this journey of life together. I will ask you to consider joining causes that fire me up. I will open up and let you look inside of a Native American who seeks to follow Christ in a world where tension seems to ever increase.

I am writing for those on the journey of life who want to learn new things. I write to figure out how to do life together in Christ. I am writing for the Native American who is discovering purpose and identity in life. I am writing for the people who are engaging in cross-cultural dynamics every day. I am writing for those who need encouragement when the world is so discouraging. I am writing to give hope in a hopeless world. I am writing for those who need a fresh perspective on what’s going on in the world.
You can get involved first by subscribing and sharing my blog. Next, you can engage by posting comments and sharing our conversations. Moreover, you can be involved in learning new things just like I am. In fact, you may have already learned something that I need to consider. We can learn things together.

My blogging goals begin with writing at least one post per week. Also, I will write one piece of epic content for you to engage at least every quarter. Of course, I intend to increase my blog traffic at least 6% each month the first year and to increase my email opt-in rate to 50% in the first year. Moreover, I will make connections with 12 influencers and feature them on my blog.
I am more than a census designation. You are more than a fact of information. As people living on this earth, I long to learn about things in life. I am a learner. So, join me to learn things in this life.
